- 1. About the shareware concept
- ------------------------------
-
- This is the SHAREWARE version of the new jump and run game Dungeons of
- China. This means that this version of Dungeons of China is allowed to be
- copied freely to all people you know; moreover this is even desired,
- because Dungeons of China may not be purchased in any shop. But the owner
- of the SHAREWARE version of Dungeons of China is entitled to test the
- game only, not to play it regularly. If he wants to do so, he must pay a
- registration fee and will get a personal version of Dungeons of China with
- much more features than this SHAREWARE version covers. This personal
- version, of course, must NOT be copied to anyone else. The registration
- fee is as low as
-
- 20 DM when ordered from GERMANY (postage included)
- 15 US-$ when ordered NOT from GERMANY (postage included)
- 18 US-$ when ordered NOT from GERMANY (air mail included)
-
- and includes the following:
-
- - the game Dungeons of China with 15 new exciting levels
- and a saving hiscore list
- - A real good manual (with many pictures, tips, ...)
- - The shareware version of STRATEGY ADVANCED, the great
- military strategy game (EGA/VGA, mouse and 358 KByte of
- free memory required)
- - Support of the shareware concept and the encouragement
- of mine to program further great shareware games
-
- When you want to get a registered version of Dungeons of China and all the
- great advantages listed above, just send the money in an envelope (well
- hidden) or a check (when ordered from Germany) to the following address:
-
- Markus Mueck
- Fuenf-Baeume-Weg 76
- 7900 Ulm
- Germany
-
- Another possible way to get a registered version of Dungeons of China is the
- following one: If you know someone who owns the full registered version
- of Dungeons of China just send the following registration fee to me and
- copy the original discs and the manual of your friend:
-
- 12 DM when ordered from GERMANY
- 8 US-$ when ordered NOT from GERMANY
-
- In that case you'll get a letter confirming that you are an registered
- owner of Dungeons of China. If you are a few friends who all want to own
- Dungeons of China, just one of you has to order the full version and all
- others have to pay the lowered registration fee. All this can even be done
- in one go (meaning in one envelope).
-
-
- Please support the shareware concept and regsiter yourself. It took me quite
- a long time to write such a program (especially the image routines), not
- mentioned the debugging of it and I would appreciate your contribution very
- much.
-
- 2. The required hardware to play Dungeons of China
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- Dungeons of China is not a game of the early computer years and therefore
- requires modern hardware like
-
- - A IBM PC/XT/AT/386 or 486 or compatible computer
- (AT 12 Mhz is recommended)
- - A EGA/VGA or compatible graphics card
- - A color EGA/VGA monitor
- - 212 KByte of free memory
-
- Note: Owners of some not 100% compatible VGA graphic cards will see the
- starting picture scrolling very unsoftly into to screen (in contrast
- to owners of real good VGA or EGA graphic cards). Don't worry if you
- own a card like this and terminate the scrolling process by pressing
- any key.
-
-
- 3. The object of Dungeons of China
- ----------------------------------
-
- Dungeons of China: Magic Miner is a classic jump and run game as mentioned
- above. The aim is to complete all seven (!!) levels of the shareware version
- with three bonus lives. This means you are allowed to "touch" a monster,
- laser or other deathbringing pieces three times. But then you are really
- singing in the choir of angels, which will be confirmed by a angle flying up
- the screen. If you die somewhere in the fourth level, for example, then
- you'll have to start at very beginning of that level again keeping nothing
- but the score you had before.
- These are the dark sides of Dungeons of China (which you will face very very
- often). Now the way to the next levels will be explained:
- In each level you have to collect three items (a chest, a potion and a
- lantern) and then reach the key (which is the symbol of leaving this and
- getting to the next level). An item may only be collected by walking over
- it on the platform it is positioned. You can't get it by jumping up to it
- or by other strange means.
-
-
- 4. Starting Dungeons of China
- -----------------------------
-
- Type at the DOS prompt (e.g. a:>) "MINER" and press return. After a few
- milliseconds a welcoming picture will appear (scrolling softly into the
- screen or not; that depends on your graphics card as mentioned above. You
- may interrupt the scrolling by pressing any key).
- This welcoming picture offers the following options:
-
- Press F1 to make the computer play some music in the background
- Press F2 to change the game speed (switch between slow, normal, fast)
- Press F3 to change the starting level. This is only possible if you
- got a numeric code after completing a level (not all levels
- offer these numeric codes). If you have pressed F3 just enter
- the six numers (0 to 9) you got. If you are right, you
- will hear a high BEEP and a new starting level will appear.
- If you are wrong, you will hear a low BEEP and the starting
- level will switch to 1 whether it was higher before or not.
- Press Q to leave Dungeons of China: Magic Miner
-
- Now press SPACE to start DUNGEONS of CHINA.
- You will see yourself in form of a blue man in the right corner on the
- lower part of your screen. You may move by pressing the following keys on
- the numeric keyboard (if you don't like these keys you may define a new
- keyboard definition for Dungeons of China: Magic Miner by starting the
- utility "KEYS.EXE". For more information look at paragraph 5).
-
-
- 8
- ( climb up ladder )
-
- 4 ( move left ) ( move right ) 6
-
- 2
- ( climb down ladder )
-
-
- Space
- ( jumping )
-
- Return
- ( Terminate angle flight )
-
- Note: Be sure that the LED over your numeric keyboard is on. Otherwise
- press the "NUM"-key on your numeric keyboard once.
-
-
- A word on jumping: When you move left or right, you will stay in your
- left or right moving positions for some moments. During that time you
- are allowed to press the space key to jump into the direction you face.
- When you wait too long, you will stand straight (you see your back)
- and just jump up by pressing space.
- Some other commands:
-
- ESC - ESC will terminate your game and start over
- F1 - The computer will start/stop playing some music
- while you're enjoying Dungeons of China
- Return - When you die an angel will fly up the screen. To
- terminate this flight, press Return
-
-
- 5. New key definition
- ---------------------
-
- Your disc contains besides MINER.EXE the file KEYS.EXE. Just type KEYS at
- the DOS prompt to start it. KEYS.EXE offers the possibility to change the
- keys which force the miner to move. Please press your favourite keys
- for the direction the program is asking you and confirm your choice by
- pressing "Y". Now KEYS.EXE will try to save your new definition on your
- disc. This is only possible if you removed the write protection label
- which may be on the right side of your disc (if you use a hard disc it
- doens't matter to you !). Each time you start Dungeons of China: Magic
- Miner from this disc you may play with your favourite keys.
-
-
- 6. The end of the game
- ----------------------
-
- There is no real goal to reach at Dungeons of China, beside seeing all
- levels. But if you're through there a two possible ways to continue:
- a) Play again the same stuff
- b) Register yourself and get a new version with a lot of new levels,
- a saving hiscore list, great fun .... for so little money (postage
- included !).
-
- I hope you will do the right choice !
-
-
- 7. Bugs
- -------
-
- After many nights of hard work I think I have thrown all bugs out of this
- program. If you should discover any bugs despite of that, please write to
- me and specify when the bug occurs.
-
-
- 8. Whom to write a letter
